What methods of delivery options do I have to send Internationally?
Australia Post is the country’s biggest postal service and is completely owned by the government, they have many different methods of delivery for you to choose from meaning that you can select the correct option for you that suits your transaction or shipping request. There are 4 different types of delivery options for you when sending overseas, with many things to consider. They are as follows:
- Economy – This option is for when speed isn’t a priority and the contents of the package is of low value like non-urgent letters and documents, and if it is a parcel you are sending it MUST be 2kg or less to qualify for this method of delivery, you will have to fill out a CN22 or CN23 customs form when using this option you can download them online, the prices start at $2.50 for letters and documents and $8.90 for parcels.
- International Standard Delivery – This is the best value for money option you can choose, this is for non-urgent packages and is trackable, you can send up to a 20kg parcel, you must fill out a CN23 customs form before sending via this method and you can download that of the Australia Post website www.auspost.co.au/declareonline and the post via post office of a normal post box, prices for this start at $15.20 without any extras you may want like Signature on Delivery and Extra Cover, you will need to fill out a CN23 customs form, you will find you will be able to fill this out online at www.auspost.com.au/declareonline prices start from $15.20.
- International Express – This is one of the first levels of “priority delivery” this comes with tracking and extra features included. This is perfect for urgent parcels, letters and documents and you can send up to 20kg parcels and 500g letters and documents, you will need to fill out a CN23 customs form and prices start at $28.50 for letters and documents and $30.20 for parcels.
- International Courier – This is the fastest way to get items delivered and will usually be delivered within 2 business days, with it being the most premium package delivery service it is only available in select retail outlets. This service is for very urgent parcels, letters and documentation and can send up to 20kg parcel and 500g in letters, you will need to fill out the “International Courier declaration” and “Courier airway bill” forms to enable you to use this service and prices start at $90.20. With all of these options, you can use the Australia Post tracking service but bare in mind that this service may not give you the most up to date information on the whereabouts of your parcels, for example, if your international package is going from Australia to Canada, at some point your mail will get to Canada and from then on it may be tricky to track as the parcel may change hands multiple times. What are my packaging options with Australia post?

- Recycled Padded Bags – These are an all-purpose option combining great cushioning protection and rigidity. This option is best for mailing documents and certificates/photos, this is a green way of sending a parcel as the padded bag is completely recyclable. Small will cost $1.70 and large $2.60.
- Tough Bags – A tough bag is the most economical route to send your parcel and are ideal for sending items that are non-fragile. The TB1 Tough Bag is $1.25 and the Extra-Large Tough Bag is $2.15.
- Tubes, mailers and wine boxes – The tube as a delivery option is mainly for sending maybe important plans or art, the mailers for important documents and wine box is a self-explanatory delivery packaging. A TU1 Mailing tube starts at $2.70, a rigid mailer at $1.40 and a wine box at $3.85.
- Gift Bags and Boxes – This packaging option is perfect if you are sending a present and don’t want the hassle of wrapping the gift yourself, the medium padded gift bags start at $3.80 and a large gift box at $6.95.
